THE STORY OF EMMAUS ROAD
Emmaus is a
town located seven miles north of Jerusalem.
The Bible, in Luke chapter 24, tells a story about two people
traveling from Jerusalem
to Emmaus. They had recently
lost Jesus to death by crucifixion, and they are sad and despondent.
While they journeyed together, they continued to talk about all they
had seen and heard. Jesus, the
one they thought was dead, showed up on the road with them. He joins the conversation. In their grief they do not
recognize Him.
The journey later leads to a meal together where Jesus breaks the
bread and gives thanks. "Then their eyes were opened and they
recognized Him." Upon
recognizing Him, their grief turned to joy! They could not contain
themselves. They returned at
once to Jerusalem
to tell others.
